The beautiful Karisma Kapoor, daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita rebelled against the Kapoor family tradition of not letting any of their women join Bollywood. She made her debut with Prem Qaidi.
Even as a newcomer Karisma proved that she was a true blue-blooded Kapoor. Her performance got rave reviews and Karisma's career took off with Sapne Saajan Ke, Anari, Nischay and Jagruti. Films, which proved the newest Kapoor, could emote but did not tap her talent to the hilt. It was only after she teamed up with Govinda that Karisma shot to fame and recognition. She became a dancing sensation who could keep pace with the talented Govinda.
Raja Babu, Khuddar, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Saajan Chale Sasural catapulted her to the top of the charts. After a spate of potboilers with Govinda she proved herself in Raja Hindustani where she had to hold her own against Aamir Khan's calibre. She came through with flying colours.
Karisma has done the maximum movies with Govinda and Salman Khan. Judwa and Jeet followed by Yash Chopra's super hit Dil To Pagal Hai saw Karisma walking away with a well-deserved Best Supporting Actress award (Filmfare).
Karisma has finally shed the "baby doll" look and has done some challenging roles. In Fiza we see a completely deglamourized Karisma. She plays a sister in search of a brother and has brought a lot of sensitivity to the character. Karisma has a lot of heroine-oriented roles being offered to her.
Zubeidaa directed by Shyam Benegal was a huge success. Karisma has signed a number of films due to be released in the near future.
