Karishma bounces with joy

Karishma Kapoor is relieved that the court case is over. The main protagonist of the Sahara show KARISHMA-A MIRACLE OF DESTINY prefers not to comment about the controversy the show encountered. "Now that it's over and done with. Let it be. All of us had put so much into this series, things couldn't go wrong for us," Karishma says for its shoot. The show was taken off the air after its first episode when American novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford slapped a copyright infringement suit and a stay on its telecast. Six episodes were telecast from July 21,2003 after a Kolkata High Court order but the series again stopped telecast. Now with the Supreme Court verdict in favour of Sahara, the channel will re-launch the show on August 25.

It's good news for Karisma! Her television debut that was marred with controversy, thanks to Barbara Bradford's petition citing plagiarism, has been given the green light by the High Court. The HC granted permission to Sahara Media Entertainment to air the serial, KARISHMA from July 7. However, the channel had to pay Rs. 25 lakh as bank guarantee to the High Court Registrar.

Not Without my Sister

Karismas much-awaited official ring ceremony with Abhishek Bachchan, to be held on Bachchans birthday, was postponed. The engagement was stalled because of Kareenas professional engagement with the Barjatyas in New Zealand where Bebo was shooting for Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. Stop Lolo Stop, came the signal from Bebo. And stop Lolo did!

Daddy Cool

Needless to say, the Kapoors were present in full force for the occasion. Love for Bachchan senior and blessings for daughter Karisma and to-be-son-in-law Abhishek, dominated Randhir Kapoors tete-a-tete with the media. Positively emotional, Dabbu said to media persons: Amitabh and I have been family friends. Now we are family. I hope my daughter Karisma and Abhishek live happily ever after. Amen to that.

Supreme Court clears KARISHMA telecast

The Supreme Court on Monday (August 4, 2003) rejected US based novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford's plea and allowed the telecast of Sahara TV serial KARISHMA - A MIRACLE OF DESTINY, vindicating the Calcutta High Court judgement. The court, however, waived the penalty imposed on her by the High Court. A Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and B.P Singh put down the novelist's plea seeking stay on the telecast of the serial saying it would not interfere with the judgement of the High Court. However, the Bench felt that the High Court should not have imposed penalty upon Bradford as the order was passed at an interim stage. Bradford could still have taken the matter for trial.
Bradford had alleged that the serial was an unauthorised copy of her famous novel 'A Woman of Substance' and sought a stay on its telecast. The Calcutta High Court had on July 21,2003 dismissed her request and allowed the telecast of the controversial serial. It had also directed the novelist to pay damages for the delay in the serial's telecast as well as the litigation cost.

Karishma Kapoor to wed Sanjay Kapur and move to Delhi

Sunday, 24 Aug 2003

She was supposed to promote her new serial, but Karisma Kapoor landed up fielding scores of questions on her forthcoming marriage and announcing she would shift base to this city after tying the knot.

The actress, in town to promote the TV serial Karishma: The Miracles of Destiny, said she would continue to work after marriage but slow down the tempo.
"Everybody has their priorities, right. My professional commitments are not going to be affected by my personal life," she told a press conference on Friday.
Most journalists were less interested in the serial and more curious about the announcement that Karisma was to be wedded to a New Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur.

The actress, decked in a cream sari glittering with silver sequins, obliged some of the reporters.
On her decision to wed Sunjay Kapur, she said: "Our families have known each other for a long time. We have been childhood friends."

However, she refused to divulge details of her wedding despite repeated queries from mediapersons who thronged a glittering hall in Hotel Intercontinental.
And asked about the reasons for her much talked about break up with Abhishek Bachchan, the actress, smile in place, shot back "no comments".

On Karishma: The Miracles of Destiny, Karisma said she agreed to be associated with the mega TV series because it offered a challenging role.

The serial will be launched on Sahara Television on Monday. The broadcast was delayed by a lawsuit filed by author Barbara Taylor Bradford who said the series had plagiarised her book A Woman of Substance.
Bradford
lost the case.

"I thoroughly enjoyed doing the serial. It happened to me absolutely at the right time. I am glad I am doing the show," said Karisma.

"In the serial, you will see me as a child, a young woman, a middle-aged woman and, finally, a grandmother. I go through various generations. That is what I like about the serial."

Who is Karisma Kapoor getting married to, after all?

Karisma Kapoor, one of Bollywood's leading actresses has at the last minute backed out of the Bollywood SA Fashion Week which is all set to take place this Friday 29 August.

She was to be accompanied by Bollywood hunk Salman Khan, Malika Arora and Babul Supriyo.

All set to come to South Africa she has now to contend with wedding preparations with industrialist Sanjay Kapur and as a result, had to cancel the South African event.

Karisma, one of the most versatile actresses Bollywood has ever seen, has maintained a deafening silence after her much-talked about relationship with Abhishek went sour.. Now the silence has been broken and the word is out that Karisma will be marrying Delhi based businessman Sunjay Kapur sometime in October this year.

Filmmaker and actor dad Randir Kapoor proposes to have the marriage around the festival of Dusshera and it will be a traditional one with no engagement.

It is an arranged marriage but both Karisma and Sanjay have known each other since childhood but each of them pursued their own careers - Karisma in the film industry and Sanjay his business responsibilities.

Karisma Kapoor's mother, former actress Babita and her prospective mother-in-law have been friends for many years and in fact she shot one of her hey day movies Haseena Maan Jaayegi at Sanjay's mother's home and they have remained friends since then.

Karisma intends to continue her acting career after marriage but would be choosy as to the roles she accepts. Currently she is doing a TV serial called Karishma - The Miracle of Destiny.

She bagged the Filmfare Award for Raja Hindustani opposite Aamir Khan and Fiza and the National Award for Zubeida opposite Manoj Bajpai.

Think of the advantage of marrying Sanjay --  she does not have to change her surname!

You noticed her in Prem Qaidi. You admired her in Raja Hindustani. And you loved her in Dil To Pagal Hai.

Then you appluaded her in Fiza and Zubeidaa.

Karisma Kapoor has completed a full circle: From her jhatkas opposite her Hero No 1 Govinda to a mature television series, Karishma: The Miracles Of Destiny.

Now, she is all set to wed childhood friend and industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The couple will tie the knot on September 29.

Wish Karisma Kapoor a happy married life!

Karisma Kapoor is radiant.
